For this project you will use Adobe Illustrator and the new skills learned to create either a re-imagined movie poster or a gig poster for one of your favorite bands.

The Assignment:
To begin the assignment you will need to brainstorm different movies or bands you would like to create a poster about.
- Create a folder in your Advanced Digital Design Folder Titled: Poster Design.
- Inside of this folder create a folder titled: RESEARCH/INSPIRATION
- In this research/inspiration folder save at least 5-10 reference images you will draw inspiration from.
- Once you have researched images create another Folder titled: Idea Sketches.
- You will need to sketch at least 2-3 ideas before beginning your final poster.
- You may sketch these in ArtRage, Photoshop, or traditionally and scan them in.
- Once you have completed your sketches save them in your Idea Sketches folder.
- Inside of this folder create a folder titled: RESEARCH/INSPIRATION
- Once you have completed your research and sketches you may begin your final Poster.
- Your poster must be 11x17 in. vertically oriented.
- Every movie poster and gig poster is always vertically oriented to fit in the frames that any theater or venue has to advertise.
7 Elements of a Good Movie Poster:Attention - It needs to jump out from a wall.
Iconography - Show without explicitly telling. Interest - Create an incentive to see the film. Appeal - Create desire for fans and non-fans alike. Style - The look MUST look consistent with the film. Lasting Appeal - A design that fits multiple formats (Stands the test of time) Recognizability - If it's a sequel, make it obvious. |
